New ‘Coco’ Clip and Featurette Reveal How the Real World Inspired Pixar’s Latest

Pixar’s second film of 2017 (after Cars 3, the haunting tale of a post-apocalyptic world where cars have risen against their human masters and taken over the world, and also have tongues now) is Coco, the story of a young Mexican boy who wants to become a musician and somehow winds up in the Land of the Dead. Above, you’ll see a brand new clip of the film, featuring its hero Miguel (Anthony Gonzalez) tempted by the opportunity to fulfill his dream and finally play guitar, before the whole thing gets shut down by his tough-as-nails Abuelita (Renee Victor).

Here’s the film’s official synopsis:

Despite his family’s baffling generations-old ban on music, Miguel dreams of becoming an accomplished musician like his idol, Ernesto de la Cruz (voice of Benjamin Bratt). Desperate to prove his talent, Miguel finds himself in the stunning and colorful Land of the Dead following a mysterious chain of events. Along the way, he meets charming trickster Hector (voice of Gael García Bernal), and together, they set off on an extraordinary journey to unlock the real story behind Miguel’s family history.

As an added bonus, here’s a new featurette about the making of the film, and how research trips to Mexico helped inspire Pixar’s artists, including director Lee Unkrich, in designing the look, feel, and story of Coco.
