‘Stranger Things’ Bosses Tease Potential Season 2 Cliffhanger

Stranger Things Season 2 Cliffhanger Ending
Netflix

The first season of Stranger Things wrapped up with enough resolution to keep us generally satisfied, so might Season 2 up the ante? A new interview with the Duffers offers mixed messages on a Season 2 cliffhanger, along with teases of Eleven’s new abilities.

The Duffers spoke to TVLine ahead of their notable shut-out at the 2017 Emmys, revealing a few choice details of the October premiere. In addition to teasing Millie Bobby Brown’s work in Season 2 (she was up for an Emmy), as well that Eleven now has hair and can speak in complete sentences, the brothers were asked if the “sequel” would end on a cliffhanger for Season 3.

Initially, Ross seemed to downplay the idea, suggesting “It wraps up very nicely, I think. People will feel satisfied. There’s a hint of what is to come.” That said, Matt pointed out that they hadn’t answered the question of an actual 1-10 rating on the cliffhanger scale, to which he offered a meaty “7,” before changing his answer to “7.5.” I don’t know about you, but that definitely doesn’t sound like “wraps up very nicely.”

The brothers also noted that no decision had yet been made on Stranger Things’ longevity, though four to five seasons still seemed a likely target of how long they could keep the story exciting. In particular, Matt offered “I don’t think this storyline is built to sustain that many seasons … that’s why we’re calling it a ‘sequel,’ or ‘2.’ We’re not going to get up into ‘6,’ or something like that.”

Elsewhere of Stranger Things Season 2, we know the next chapter will move from its summer perch to an October 27 premiere. The story will pick up in the fall of 1984, while creators Matt and Ross Duffer have teased a James Cameron sequel influence in crafting the second chapter. We’ll also learn more about the Upside Down, as teased in our exclusive concept art piece, while additional new cast includes Sadie Sink, Dacre Montgomery Brett Gelman, Goonies alum Sean Astin, Aliens baddie Paul Reiser and actress Linnea Berthelsen. The full list of directors has also been revealed, including Finding Dory helmer Andrew Stanton.

We’ll learn more of Stranger Things Season 2 in the coming weeks, so stay tuned for additional details, and watch the trailer below.
