Angelo State University’s Air Force ROTC Detachment 847 will host its annual Junior ROTC (JROTC) Drill Meet for high school students from across Texas on Saturday, March 25, at the Junell Center/Stephens Arena, 2235 S. Jackson St.

Events will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. outside the Junell Center and are open for free public viewing.

Cadets from JROTC units at 18 Texas high schools will compete for awards and trophies in various contests judged by active duty members of the U.S. Air Force, Army and Marine Corps. Contests at the Drill Meet will include: 

  • Unarmed inspection
  • Unarmed regulation
  • Unarmed exhibition
  • Armed inspection
  • Armed regulation
  • Armed exhibition
  • Color Guard competition
  • Individual drill
  • Tandem drill
  • Knockout drill
  • Warrior Challenge
  • Saber Team drill

In addition to the Drill Meet, an academic fair will be set up in the nearby ASU Rassman Building, where participants and attendees can talk to representatives of various ASU academic programs and learn more about student life on campus.

U.S. military recruiters and representatives from Goodfellow and Dyess Air Force Bases will also be on hand for various presentations, including flight simulators, rocket demonstrations, remotely piloted vehicles, military working dogs and seismology equipment.
